Algebra: Solving Linear Equations - Part 1: The Basics
[NOTE: This video is only the first 18 minutes of the full lesson, please visit my website to purchase complete version] Lesson consists of providing you with a Self-Tutorial on how to solve linear equations. Tutor discusses what is an Equation, Solution, Solution Set, Equivalent Equations, Identity, Contradictions, Conditional Equations, Linear Equations, the Standard Form of a Linear Equation. I show you how to actually SOLVE linear equations going step-by-step. I don't skip steps. I review some of the properties of Equality here too. I remind you to check the work done and how to solve linear equations using a calculator. At the end, you will know how to easily solve equations that look like: 2[y - (4y - 1)] = 5 - 9y No word problems are done here. This is shown in DETAIL in Part 2 of the Lesson.

Writing Linear Equations - YourTeacher.com - Algebra Help
For a complete lesson on writing linear equations, go to www.yourteacher.com - 1000+ online math lessons featuring a personal math teacher inside every lesson! In this lesson, students learn to write the equation of a line in slope-intercept form using the graph of the line. In some problems, the graph is given, and in other problems, the graph must be drawn (using given information about points and slope). Since slope intercept form is the same thing as y = mx + b form, where m represents the slope and b represents the y-intercept, the next step is to use the graph to find the slope and y-intercept of the line. To find the slope, use the ratio rise over run between any two points on the given line. To find the y-intercept, remember that the y-intercept is the point where the line crosses the y-axis. Finally, substitute the values for the slope, m, and y-intercept, b, into the formula y = mx + b to write the equation of the line.

Linear Equation
number sentence line.
If you graph your equation on a grid, and all of the points form a straight line, it is linear. See the word line inside "linear"? It also means that the equation has no exponents. It only has addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Introduction to Linear Equations
Check out Bas Rutten's Liver Shot on MMA Surge: bit.ly In this video, Mahalo math expert Allison Moffett gives you an introduction to linear equations. What is a Linear Equation? --------------------------------------------------------------------- A linear equation is a mathematical expression with an equal sign and two variables that can be represented by a line on a graph. An example of such an equation would be y=3x-4. With these equations, both variables can change the number that they represent, but as one changes, the other must change according to the formula. In this case, x is the independent variable and y is the dependent variable. Identifying Linear Equations --------------------------------------------------------------------- In the example of y=3x-4, you know it is a linear equation because all the variables are only raised to the power of one. It isn't written out that way, but it's understood. If there were an x squared or x cubed, it wouldn't be a linear equation. Graphing Linear Equations --------------------------------------------------------------------- When you represent linear equations on a graph, the result will be a straight line that slants (or slopes) to either the right or left and intersects both axes at different points.
